We believe every child should thrive. But a new state law will hold back every third grader who does not pass a standardized reading test. Districts with the highest poverty rates also have the lowest test scores. Last year 38% of third graders in the South Bend Community School Corporation failed the test. This is a chance for our community to wrap our arms around our kids in an emergency.

Fortunately, there is an effective vehicle to help the children at greatest risk. Tutor-ND trains and coaches people for high impact tutoring. A child is 3 times more likely to pass the iREAD exam if their school received this kind of tutoring.

We Make Indiana is calling on 100 people from our congregations and our community to become tutors from now through June so every child who needs one can receive support this spring. You will be trained, coached, and paid $15 - $25 / hour (depending on your education). You are asked to commit three one hour shifts a week.
